How To File The Screen On A Chromebook?

(File The Screen On A Chromebook) In previous years, Chrome OS lacked a developed-in display recorder, which compelled users like us to go obtain 3rd-occasion extensions or Android applications to use it. But it was clunky, a lot of techniques, and it didn’t generally do the job properly, in particular when carried out via Android applications. Luckily, 2021 and Chrome OS 89 brought us a revamped monitor capture menu, which took partial screenshots much easier and also included in a indigenous screen recorder. (Hallelujah!)

This suggests that recording your best Chromebook’s display screen is a lot easier than ever since it works by using the same buttons and menu as taking a screenshot on Chrome OS and offers us the selection to report a solitary window or a customized spot of the display screen in addition to the excellent previous-fashioned fullscreen recording. Here is how to begin and stop a display recording on a Chromebook.

How to history the monitor on a Chromebook

If you want to consider an online video somewhat than a however screenshot, which is simple and adequate to do on a Chromebook now that Chrome OS 89 has rolled out to everybody. In advance of Chrome OS 89, we experienced to depend on third-get-together Chrome extensions for monitor recording, but now we have obtained it designed-in.

  1. Faucet the time in the base-correct corner of the display screen. How to Screen Capture a Chromebook
  2. Faucet Screen capture in the Fast Configurations toggles. (Or push Ctrl + Alt + Overview (seems like []||) from any screen. How to Screen Capture a Chromebook
  3. Faucet the digital camera toggle on the remaining-hand side of the Display screen capture bar.
  4. If you want to record your microphone, faucet the settings equipment on the proper facet of the bar.
  5. The faucet records the microphone to toggle it on. How to Screen Capture a Chromebook
  6. To acquire a fullscreen seize, tap the basic rectangle following to the digital camera toggle.
  7. Tap anywhere on the screen to commence recording after a 3-second countdown. How to Screen Capture a Chromebook
  8. To conclusion your recording, tap the pink end icon in the dock upcoming to the Totes document hub. How to Screen Capture a Chromebook

A notification will seem to acknowledge the new recording in your Downloads folder and offering you a fast motion to delete the video if you recorded it by accident. Chrome OS’s screen seize is a primary recorder, but for 90% of us, that’ll be enough, but if you will need some thing with far more solutions and instruments, contemplate Screencastify, which has free and paid-out variations depending on how a lot of of its features you need.

What to do with your screen recording?

Now, Chrome OS monitor recordings are encoded as WebM movies, which is a no-cost movie structure that Google sponsored the advancement of. It truly is free of charge and commonly compatible with most world wide web platforms considering that it truly is royalty-free and was created as a substitute to HTML5 media formats. In some rare occasions the place .webM documents are not supported by a web-site, you can easily change them over to .mp4 working with totally free on web services like CloudConvert, but for standard enhancing and sharing, no conversion is essential.

Google Pictures is just one of the pre-installed Android apps on Chromebooks for a couple of causes, but the most significant one in particular is that the website Google Pictures editor won’t assist with video clip editing nonetheless only the Android and iOS apps do. If you want to edit your screen recording, we have an attractive in-depth guidebook to working with Google Photos’ video clip editor that you can bookmark for use. You will not likely have to have to use stabilization or coloration correction since monitor recordings aren’t shot on a camera that tilts. However, it is superior for extracting screenshots, trimming off the beginning or finish, and adding a fundamental annotation or two.

Dilemma loading movie:

If you run into “Dilemma loading movie” challenges with the regional duplicate, add your display recording to Google Images using the Upload button at the major of the app. This will enable you to edit it from your mobile phone if you happen to be in a hurry — and it will make the video clip easier to share as you can just use the Google Images hyperlink to share your display screen recording everywhere.

I am hoping Chrome OS at some point will get the selection to conserve recordings as .mp4 rather than .webM, but for now, I am just satisfied to have a Chrome OS display recorder that’s created-in and can be activated in two clicks when a website is glitching — or when Chrome OS by itself is.

How To Use The Diagnostics App To Troubleshoot Chromebook Problems

(Diagnostics App To Troubleshoot)When Google announced Chrome OS 90 back in April, the company added a brand new Diagnostics app. As expected, the app makes it easy to analyze the best Chromebooks to identify any potential problems that you may be experiencing.

How to use the Diagnostics app on a Chromebook

Performing a diagnostics test was available before Chrome OS 90 was announced, but it required you to view an internal system page. Now, you have a dedicated app that presents different bits of information regarding the battery, CPU, and Memory. Here’s how you can access the Diagnostics app:

  1. With your Chromebook unlocked, click the Time in the bottom right corner.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Click About Chrome OS.
  4. Select Diagnostics.

Another way that you can access the Diagnostics app is by pressing the launcher key on your keyboard and typing Diagnostics in the search bar. Press the Enter key, and it’ll take you right to the Diagnostics page.

Diagnostics App Chromebook Open

As we stated above, there are three different areas in the Diagnostics app that Chrome OS focuses on.  Diagnostics App To Troubleshoot These are your battery, CPU, and Memory (or RAM), and you can perform a series of tests to ensure your Chromebook is running in tip-top shape.

Test your battery

Run Battery Test Diagnostics Chromebook

Under the Battery section, you’ll find three different pieces of information for your Chromebook. These are as follows:

  • Battery health: Battery capacity declines with usage
  • Cycle count: The number of times your battery has gone through a full charging cycle
  • Current: The rate at which the device is currently charging or discharging

Below those three sections, there’s a Run Discharge test button. Clicking on that will run a quick battery test, presenting some quick results along with a “Learn More” link. Navigating to this link takes you to the Chrome Help page explaining why a discharge test is useful.

If you have trouble keeping the battery charged, Google suggests there may be an issue with the battery itself or the charging port. And if the problems persist, you’ll have to reach out to either the store that you bought the Chromebook from or the manufacturer directly.

Test the CPU

Run Cpu Test Diagnostics Chromebook

The next step in this series of diagnostic tests is the CPU. At a glance, you’re shown a moving bar graph based on how much processing power your Chromebook has while the Diagnostics app is open. There are three different pieces of information shown, and they are as such:

  • Current usage: This is an aggregation of all cores
  • Temperature
  • Current speed

It’s not often that you’ll need to test the CPU, but if things are bogged down, you can run a test. Click the Run CPU test button, and then watch as all of your bars ramp up as the test proceeds. This test also takes the longest out of the bunch, so you’ll want to step away from your Chromebook and grab something to drink. By running this test, the Diagnostics app performs the following tests:

  • Stress
  • Cache
  • Floating-point accuracy
  • Prime search

Provided that everything goes off without a hitch, you’ll see a series of green SUCCESS messages next to each test. If not, you can head over to the Chromebook Help page to learn more.

Run a memory test

Run Memory Test Diagnostics Chromebook

Last but certainly not least, the Diagnostics app allows you to keep an eye on the memory or RAM in your Chromebook. You’ll see a basic line graph with a little RAM logo to the left and the amount of RAM being used below the graph.

Just like the CPU and Battery sections, Google has made it possible to run a stress test on the memory. There aren’t any specific results displayed once the testing is completed, other than a “Test succeeded” message at the bottom.

Keep a record of your tests

Save Session Log Diagnostics Chromebook

The Diagnostics app has another nifty tool if you’re trying to nail down and keep track of what’s going on with your Chromebook. Scrolling to the very bottom of the page reveals a “Save session log” button. Clicking on this will provide a basic .txt file, asking you where you want it to be saved.

As you can likely surmise at this point, the Session Log contains the results and information gathered by performing these tests. If you ever need to reach out to your manufacturer, a Session Log may be requested, and this is how you can provide one if needed.

How To Theme Your Chromebook

(Theme Your Chromebook)are designed to work the same whether you buy the newest best Chromebooks or a model a few years older, but that doesn’t mean they all have to look the same either. Chrome themes have existed for years, and while they don’t extend to the entire Chrome OS system, they add a theme to your Chrome browser, a virtual space that we tend to spend most of our time on. Once you choose a theme, it can last for years — I’ve been using the same Blue/Green Cubes Theme since at least 2016 — and setting a new one is super simple. We’ll show you how to theme your Chromebook below.

How to apply a pre-made theme

Chrome themes are hosted in the Chrome Web Store alongside the Chrome extensions and mostly defunct Chrome apps. Therefore, testing and applying new themes is an absolute breeze because they are all hosted on the same site and can be applied with zero effort:

  1. Open the Themes section of the Chrome Web Store in your Chrome browser.
  2. Either use the search bar or scroll through the collectionsWelcome to Chrome Web Store
  3. Click the theme you want to try. Oceaninc
  4. Click Add to ChromeAdd to Chrome
  5. The theme will download and apply itself. If you don’t like the way it looks, click Undo in the action bar near the top of the screen. Undo

How to create a custom theme

Don’t like any of the pre-made themes in the Chrome Web Store? No worries. You can make your own Chrome theme without any outside tools or coding these days. Here’s how!

  1. Open a new tab in the Chrome Browser.
  2. In the bottom right corner of the new tab screen, tap the pencil iconTap Customize
  3. Tap Color and themeTap Color and theme
  4. Tap a color scheme you prefer. If you want to pick a unique color for your theme, tap the first option with the eyedropper iconTap a color
  5. Select the hex color you want.
  6. Hit the Enter key on your keyboard. Find a color and hit enter
  7. If you’d like to add a personal image for the New Tab page, tap Background. If not, tap DoneTap Background
  8. Tap one of the pre-set images or Upload from deviceTap Upload from device
  9. Select the image you want to use.
  10. Tap OpenPick your image and Open

Testing your new Chrome theme

Chrome themes have been around for a long time, and not all of them have meshed well with some of the design changes Chrome has seen in the last few years. Moreover, not all themes are made equal: some are expertly crafted, and some suck. Before you leave a theme set and go about your day, there are a few things you might want to check first:

  • Readability: Most of the Google-made themes — like this colorful collection from the Chrome team — are designed with usability in mind and were tested to make sure tab names, bookmarks, and menu items are easy to read, but many themes are not. Check that you can easily read tab names and toolbar items.
  • New Tab page: Some Chrome themes replace all or part of the standard Chrome browser New Tab window with their graphics, layout, and features. So Ctrl + T and take a look at a new tab and see if you like how it looks.
  • Touch targets When using Chrome browser on a non-touch screen, this is less of an issue, but on touchscreen Chromebooks, touch targets can sometimes overlap or get wonky in odd ways. Test a few of them before you move on:
    • Try to tap the X to close a tab on the first try.
    • Try to tap a specific extension to the right of your URL bar.
    • If you have the Bookmark bar showing, try to tap a Bookmark folder and then a specific bookmark.
  • Stability: Again, not all Chrome themes were made for the latest and greatest version of Chrome, and not all of them play nice after all these years — and not all new themes are ready for primetime. You won’t be able to test stability in five minutes, but for the next couple of days, pay closer attention to your Chromebook’s behavior. Do you notice any weird bugs or hangs that weren’t there before? Revert to your old theme. If the bugs clear up, that theme, unfortunately, needs to be fixed before you can use it full-time. I’ve had to do this with more than one theme over the years, including themes directly from the Chrome team.

Want to go further?

Do you wish Google Play icon packs or Android widgets worked with Chrome OS? Me, too! Until then, however, there are only three other ways to go deeper with your themes.

  • Set a new wallpaper. Setting a wallpaper on Chrome OS is easy and can change the feel of the system since you see it every time you wake up your Chromebook or close a window.
  • Dualboot Chrome OS with some Linux distro that has themes available. This is only recommended for experts, and honestly, even then, it’s not a very good reason to dual boot.
  • Get your Chromebook some new accessories! Between keyboard skins, new protective sleeves, and emotionally savage decals, there are plenty of ways to customize a Chromebook that doesn’t require touching the software at all.
